Helically wound wire thread inserts, rolled from high quality stainless steel wire and cold-drawn into a diamond shaped cross section, are installed into a tapped hole, providing a permanent and wear resistant thread in the installed material that is stronger than the original tapped thread.

The inserts are larger in diameter than the tapped hole and compress as they are installed. This allows maximum surface contact area and permanently anchoring the inserts into the assembly.  

Helically wound wire thread inserts are more light weight, used more often for production applications and generally are cheaper than solid threaded inserts.
